DOMAINE BOUSQUET GAIA CABERNET FRANC – DOWNRIGHT DELICIOUS

Another fantastic Cabernet Franc find from Argentina, the Domaine Bousquet Gaia Cabernet Franc. Organic and vegan too.

100% Cabernet Franc organically grown in estate vineyards at 4,000 feet of altitude in Tupungato, Alto Gualtallary, Mendoza, Argentina. The wine is aged in French oak for 8-10 months. It has just 2.3 g/L of residual sugar and is vegan friendly.

Sample submitted for review. The Gaia Cabernet Franc from Domaine Bousquet has an SRP of $20 but is available for as low as $15. It is imported by WISD LLC.

From the bottle:

GAIA, the Greek goddess of the earth, has been the Bousquet family’s inspiration since founding our winery 1997 when we pioneered and cleared virgin land in the high reaches of Tupungato’s Gualtallary district. From the start, our Gaia wines have been crafted with a French winemaking sensibility and made from organic fruit grown at a cool 1,200-m/4,000-ft altitude.

Brilliant sunshine and huge shifts in day-to-night temperatures combine to create a perfect marriage of Old and New World characteristics. GAIA Cabernet Franc is made from our best, hand-harvested fruit. This food-friendly wine offers ripe tannins with vibrantly fresh red berry fruit.

The 2018 Domaine Bousquet Gaia Cabernet Franc begins with a pleasing, peppery aroma of dark fruit, cola, black pepper and just a bit of that signature Cabernet Franc green pepper (pyrazine).

The wine tastes downright delicious. The super smooth wine features a really well done light oak touch as well as plenty of ripe and juicy dark fruit, elegant touches of spice and great balance in the mouth.

It ends dry and long, with nice touches of black tea and even a bit of minerality under the lasting fruit. This is another really nice Cabernet Franc find from Argentina. It was just as good on day 2.

This was also our favorite of the three Gaia wines we’ve reviewed, the others being the Gaia Cabernet Sauvignon and the Gaia Red Blend.
